The Table Where Humanity Is Revealed
Jesus sat at a table with people He knew would fail Him.
Judas would betray Him.
Peter would deny Him.
The disciples would become confused and afraid.
Yet Jesus remained.
John 13 is not simply a story about Judas and Peter. It is a revealing picture of what happens when ordinary human beings encounter Christ.
We can betray.
We can deceive ourselves.
We can overestimate our own strength.
We can fail the One we sincerely love.
But Christ remains faithful.
And immediately after Judas leaves, Jesus gives His disciples a command:
“Love one another as I have loved you.”
Perhaps the question is not simply, Which person am I in this story?
Perhaps it is:
What will I do when Christ reveals who I really am?
